A&M-Texarkana announces Eleanor Seymour Scholarship

TEXARKANA, Texas – Throughout her career as a history teacher at Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Arkansas, Eleanor Seymour made a tremendous impact on the lives of the many students who passed through the doors of her classroom.

Now, her legacy will live on with the creation of the Eleanor Seymour Scholarship at Texas A&M University-Texarkana funded with an estate gift of $75,000 by the late educator.

Ms. Seymour was born on January 11, 1925, in Fulton, Arkansas, to Tommy and Ruth Seymour. She attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and graduated from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Upon graduation, she moved to Texarkana to begin her teaching career. She later became an independent home builder and employee of the city of Texarkana, Arkansas. She was a member of the May Dale Garden Club.

“We are very grateful to Ms. Seymour for her generous gift to the university,” said Associate Vice President for University Advancement LeAnne Wright. “Ms. Seymour truly believed in the power of education to transform lives. Her gift will not only recognize deserving students by providing them with much-needed financial assistance, it will inspire them to pursue and achieve their academic and career goals.”
