A&M-Texarkana to shine Spotlight on Texarkana USA

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana will showcase more than 70 local businesses, restaurants, attractions, clubs and organizations at the 2017 Spotlight on Texarkana community and organization fair Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Eagle Lounge and Eagle Hall in the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

Each year, the Office of Student Life and Campus Activities Board sponsor Spotlight on Texarkana as part of Best Week Ever welcome week during the first week of classes. The goal of the event is to foster a relationship between A&M-Texarkana students, faculty and staff and the greater Texarkana community.

Michael Stephenson, Student Life coordinator, said the 2017 event is poised to be largest in Spotlight on Texarkana’s history.

“This event is one that our entire campus community gets excited for,” Stephenson said. “It truly highlights Texarkana and the local businesses that are right here in our backyard. It’s an opportunity for our vendors to gain visibility and network with our students, faculty and staff.”

Spotlight on Texarkana has an exciting atmosphere, and exhibitors are encouraged to add to the environment by creatively decorating tables and offering games or giveaways.

“Our community recognizes that A&M-Texarkana is a valuable asset to the economy as we are becoming a destination for many students,” Stephenson said. “Our students are coming from all over and seeking opportunities to get involved, and capitalizing on this is very important. With the growth of our university, I predict that this event continues to grow each year as we continue to attract students from all over the country by delivering a quality and affordable education.”
