Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter to serve community Thanksgiving meal
Texarkana, TX – November 16, 2017 – The Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter will serve a community meal at 11 am on Thursday, November 23, 2017. Traditional fare including turkey, ham and dressing will be served. The Shelter anticipates approximately 350 people will come to eat on the holiday.
“We love providing this meal each year. We begin planning in September and each year we hope to make it even more special for all those who join us,” said Jennifer Laurent, Shelter executive director. “We will be able to offer plates to go for people to take home for sick family members and a group of volunteers has collected coats, shoes and more to be able to give them to those in need who come for the meal,” said Laurent.
Those who wish to help may do so by coming that morning at 10 am to serve and/or clean up or by bringing food (cooked or uncooked) anytime until the morning of Thanksgiving. Food needed includes turkeys, hams, side dishes, rolls and particularly desserts. Other items that are used include trash bags, paper plates, plastic utensils, and cups.
The Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter is an emergency shelter for adult men and women. It is a completely free, 133-bed facility. In the first ten months of 2017, 216 people moved from the Shelter into their own housing. Thousands of nights of shelter have been provided along with numerous other services.
