Stories of the Season for the Whole Family at the P.J. Ahern Home

Texarkana, AR –  Bundle up the little ones for an afternoon of classic Christmas stories at the P.J. Ahern Home, 403 Laurel Street, in Historic Downtown Texarkana. The event will be held Saturday, December 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $20 for families of 5 or more. Come and enjoy cider punch and cookies along with heart-warming stories of Christmas.

Mark your calendars and join the Texarkana Museums System for these heartwarming tales of the season. Readings begin at 1 p.m. in the Parlor with The Gift of the Magi, O. Henry’s classic tale of sacrifice for love. Next A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote will be shared in the Library by TMS Board President, Velvet Hall Cool. “This is one of my favorite Christmas stories,” said Ms. Cool, “It’s not one of the most well known holiday stories, but I think everyone will enjoy it as much as I do. I’m looking forward to sharing it with our guests.”

In honor of the centennial of U.S. entry into World War I, a special performance of The Christmas Truce by Aaron Sheppard will be held in the Music Room. This unique four person reading is a special tale of peace in the trenches of the Great War. We will finish with a special reading of a holiday famorite,  Twas the Night Before Christmas read by Jaime Alexander in the Foyer. Children under 12 will be presented with a mini Christmas stocking filled with surprises.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the P. J. Ahern Home Museum.  Refreshments will be served in the Dining room. Admission is $5 per person or $20 for families of 5 or more. The P.J. Ahern Home is a 1905 Classical Revival mansion located at 403 Laurel Street in Historic Downtown Texarkana, Arkansas. This National Register Property is open for tours, events, and programs.
