East Texas Writing Project Opens Registration for its Spring Educators’ Conference featuring Columbia University Teacher Educator, Dr. Bob Fecho

TEXARKANA, Texas – The East Texas Writing Project (ETWP) will host its 2018 Spring Educators’ Conference on Friday, Mar. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Eagle Hall, 7101 University Avenue, Texarkana, Texas.

The conference, an annual event for the ETWP, focuses on helping area educators improve their teaching of writing both in and outside of English language arts classrooms. This year’s conference will feature workshops by Dr. Bob Fecho, Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. Fecho is an experienced teacher educator and has authored or coauthored several books on teaching, including “Teaching for the Students: Habits of heart, mind, and practice in engaged classrooms.”

Texas teachers can also earn 4.5 hours of continuing professional education credits.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Fecho coming to our conference this year,” explains Hinton. “He came into higher education after a twenty-plus-year career teaching in working class and working poor neighborhoods in North and West Philadelphia. He’s also a writing project advocate, having spent some time with the Philadelphia Writing Project. His experience as both teacher and teacher educator will be a tremendous asset to the current and future teachers in attendance. We will all learn.”

The conference registration fee is $25.00 and includes lunch in the A&M-Texarkana Café. Attendees can register online through the event registration page: http://tamut.edu/etwp/Programs/Spring-Educators-Conference.html. Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase books by Dr. Fecho and network with other area teachers.

The East Texas Writing Project is one of 190 National Writing Project sites across the nation, one of only ten sites in the state of Texas, and the only site serving K-16 educators in the Ark-la-tex. Current and future teachers and writing enthusiasts are invited to become part of the group.
